| FILIA [(gr.)=friendship]is a
greek-german cultural centre founded in 1988. The centre is created by the non-profit
association "Filia - greek-german youth information and meeting centre". FILIA
hat got the Mete-Eksi-Prize in 1993 and is a member of the "Paritätisches
Wohlfahrtsverband" union. After 11 years of continuous presence in the
Neukölln-district of Berlin, FILIA moved the base of the association and the centre to
Schöneberg in March 2001.
The aims of FILIA are:
Services offered: Counselling The accents are set on educational, professional and military service issues. Additional advice on courses of german language, general social advisory and personal counselling are also offered.
Education Our centre organises exhibitions, cultural and educational events as well as educational trips and international youth exchange visits within the frame of the european programme "Youth for Europe". In addition to these events, FILIA organises three more projects outside its own basis: "Greek Cinema Days", every November. Multilateral Youth exchange visits within the framework of "Youth for Europe", all year round. European Volunteer services within the framework of "Youth for Europe" (as host and sending project for volunteers from EU countries.
Financing The counselling sessions and the monthly cultural events in the centre are made possible by the financial support from the state of Berlin (social services-delegate for foreigners of the state (Land) of Berlin). Educational and cultural projects are financed by the Commission of the european union and the secretary general for issues concerning the greek diaspora at the greek ministry of culture as well as private sponsoring. FILIA is also financially contributing through donations and membership fees.
